Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

On the eve of going to press we have secured particulars of a new five-ton model which the White Company of Camden Town will proceed to place on the English market. The several photographs r;.produced herewith give a good idea of the general and detail construction of this machine,

The engine is of 40 h.p., with four cylinders cast en bloc. The cooling water is pump-driven through a honeycomb radiator, and a. distinct feature of interest lies in the mounting of I he cooler on two coil springs which are housed in suitable castings bolted to the main frame ; a belt-driven fan assists the cooling, as does also the vaned flywheel,

Forced lubrication is provided by a pump driven from the camshaft ; the water-pump and magneto which are located on the left-hand side of the engine are driven from the timing gear. A feature of interest in

the lubrication system is the provision of an oil chamber bolted to the inside of the, dash, the object of which is to secure a constant supply of fresh, clean oil to the pump. A by-pass is provided which allows for the return of any surplus oil to the oil chamber and the big-ends.

The drive from the clutch to the gearbox is through universal joints. Special provision is, as usual, made to allow for lack of alignment between clutch and gearbox

it is so constructed that wear can be easily taken up. The gear control is centrally situated, which, of course, is a departure from English standard. Four speeds and a reverse are provided with direct drive on the third speed. The sprocket wheels are of large diameter, and have 12 teeth. The drive from the gearbox is through universal joints to a double-bevel differential. The large-sized cover of the differential case can be taken off after the removal of six bolts, so allowing the whole of the inner construction to be taken out for examination or repair. Radius rods of neat design, which allow any play which may manifest itself to be taken up with the minimum of trouble, are fitt,ed. Large-diameter internal-expanding hand brakes of ample power are provided on the back axles, and external contracting foot-operated brakes are fitted to the sprocket shafts. The steering is by worm and sector, suitably housed on the engine frame. The front springs are overslung, while the rear springs, which are underslung, are of strong design, and are built up of 18 leaves. Twin Goodrich tires are fitted on the rear, and the final drive is by a chain of 2-in: pitch.
