Through Booking Arrangement.

Negotiations have been in progress for some time past (see this journal for 4th July, page 439) between the Luton Urban District Council and the London General Omnibus Company for through bookings in connection with

the Council's electric tramcars. The Council's tramway manager has had conferences with the .-on-ipany's representatives and arrangements have now been completed for through bookings between the Lea Bridge Road and Elephant and Castle, via Mile End and also via Kingsland. The Leyton terminus will be at the Rising Sun, Epping Forest, and the through fare from this point to the Elephant and Castle will be 6d. The subjoined tables show the full fares that have been arranged, and the proportions which are to go to the Council and the company.

At the meeting of the Borough Council on the 25th July, the Tramway Committee reported that, in consequence of this arrangement, it would not be necessary to run so many cars on that portion of the route in the L.G.C. area, and it had given instructions to work this service with one car only. It has also given notice to determine the hiring arrangement for additional horses (as that portion of the line in the L.C.C. area is worked by 'marmot' horse traction), and the tramway manager has been instructed to dispose of such number of horses, the property of the Council, as will not now be required.

Councillor Musgrave opposed the adoption of the committee's report, contending that it would only serve the interests of the London General Omnibus Company. Tie asked for further particulars as to the agreement which had been come to. He argued that it was only bringing another competitor into the district against the trains. He moved that the report be referred back with instructions to terminate the arrangement. This was not seconded, and the committee's report was adopted.
