Sherburn Stone gets heavy with Axor pair

SHERBURN STONE has upgraded part of its 26-strong fleet with the purchase of two new Mercedes-Benz Axor trucks.

The first Axor 3240 is an eight-wheel tipper boasting an Aliweld aluminium body, while the other is an 8x4 concrete mixer with an 8m3 Liebherr drum. Both vehicles replace older six-wheeled 26-tonners, Billy Fisher, f Ieet engineer at Sherburn, says: "We've

chosen bigger trucks to cope with increasing calls for heavier work — larger deliveries of stone from our Sherburn Hill quarry and concrete from our mixing plant. We've run Mercedes trucks before and know them to be tough, reliable performers, with chassis well-suited to life on quarry roads and construction sites. The 400hp engines are responsive and flexible and our drivers are very happy with them."
