wind deflectors following a three-month trial with one vehicle which resulted in a four per cent fuel saving.
It is estimated that on the basis of this result, the fleet will save around 27,300 litres (6,000gal) of diesel in one year.
The test vehicle was a Rolls Royce-engined Seddon hauling a 10m (33ft) box trailer.
Gardner 180 engines are used in the rest of the fleet, seven of which are based Stoke-on-Trent.
The fuel/mileage records f these seven trucks show th in the six months prior fitting the airshield, th( covered 443,284km (275,4 miles) at an average fuel co sumption of 31.6 lit/100k (8.9mpg).
In the six months after bell fitted with the deflector t same vehicles clocked 490,530km (304,801 miles) wi an improvement in fuel cc sumption to 30.41it/10011 (9.3mpg).
