AMONG items exhibited at the second C.A.V. northern conference at Harrogate on Tuesday and Wednesday was an A.C. generator and rectifier.
Mr. G. Favill, a director of C.A.V., Ltd., said thcre was a great future for this type, which was now undergoing prolonged operational trials. The company were not able to offer the particular model in quantities and until they could ensure a rectifier that would work throughout the range of temperature that the road transport industry demanded, they were not prepared to go ahead on a large scale.
A 24-v. 40-amp. model was shown. The advantages were a saving of weight and space, said Mr. Favill. Generators in use were running at four times engine speed. Employment of the A.C. generator would make the use of fluorescent lighting an easier matter. Mr. Favill could not forecast a date when the type weiuld be generally available.
Mr. J. C. H. Lovelock, joint Diesel sales manager, said that the factory now produced 10 times as many paper filters as other classes and the proportion was increasing. They were more efficient and might be cheaper than the older designs. A few countries did not permit the importation of paper filter replacements, so that some overseas customers were denied the benefit of the latest result of research.
Over 300 transport managers, fleet engineers and other representatives of the motor trade were present.
74 B.U.T. TROLLEYBUSES FOR TWO MUNICIPALITIES
THE first of 62 trolleybuses being supplied to Manchester Transport Department by British United Traction, Ltd., are at present being fitted with 60-seat double-deck bodies by H. V. Burlingham, Ltd. Huddersfield Corporation have also ordered 12 B.U.T. double-deck trolleybuses, which will have 30-ft.-long bodies built by East Lancashire Coachbuilders, Ltd.
FEROBESTOS SALES CHANGE AS from April 12, Ferodo, Ltd., are transferring the sale and manufacture of Ferobestos technical plastics to their associated company, J. W. Roberts, Ltd., who are to set up near Bolton a new department entirely devoted to these materials.
Ferobestos is an anti-friction material with great mechanical strength, high resistance to heat, chemical action and abrasion, and is notably light.
