Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Sussex driver aims to set up a job-share scheme for International drivers who want to work part-time, but as regular, rather than temporary, drivers.

Rachael Webb says there are many HGV drivers like her who are prepared to work away from home for weeks at a time, but still want time off. They often work as temporary drivers, but this has many disadvantages such as working for different employers, living in someone else's working 'home' and having to become familiar with a new employer's fuel card and regular drops.

To help tackle this Webb wants to create an informal jobsharing collective where drivers exchange names and addresses so they can job share; working for the same employer and driving the same vehicle as another known driver. Webb says: "I would suggest two of the drivers from our list of qualified drivers normally share the same truck, working it 52 weeks a year and arranging with each other when and where to swap over driving en route—changing over, not double crewing.

If the regular 'other driver was not able to take over when you wanted to go home, then you could use someone else on the drivers' list. There is no reason why three or more drivers, who would all be checked out by the employer and known to him, should not work for a week or two. Employers would also benefit from continuous working of a truck, and having the references of drivers who could undertake relief work," she adds.
