Dhis short spur motorway at Maidenhead, Berkshire is now the A404 (11,1) following the completion of the duelling of the route between the town and the M40 at High Wycombe. Rather than just replacing the signs, however, another batch was produced and placed on top of the original displays. Enables us older motorists to remember where we have been in the past. Remarkably, this is not the first time this two-and-ahalf mile stretch of road has changed its identity. Back in the 1960s it had big-league status as part of the country's modest motorway system—it was the western end of the London section of the decidedly incomplete M4.
