Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• AutoCIM of Leamington Spa has developed and installed a computer-aided design program, based on its AutoCAD system, at Bristol bodybuilder W H Bence.

The system enables Bence to process data from chassis and component manufacturers to produce its own manufacturing drawings for exhibition and special-purpose trailers.

It will produce plans for sales proposals through to detailed sub-assembly drawings using a 'building block' approach that draws, then stores standard items to be recalled when required.

The AutoCAD system, a version of which was installed last year with Lacre PDE, will run on any IBM-compatible computer including the Amstrad range. It can generate 2D and 3D models which helps the company to produce more realistic visuals for its clients.

An addition to the system is the AutoAXLE program which allows users to enter basic vehicle parameters and produce axle loading calculations and other design data in graphic as well as printed form. Line drawings can be produced for use with flame cutting machinery fitted with optical heads, and mirrored commands can be introduced to take care of left and right-hand operations.

AutoCIM has sold its systems to Ford, Mercedes, MAN-VW, Renault and Leyland Daf, as well as components makers such as Rockwell and Clayton Dewandre. Trailer manufacturer York Trailers uses AutoCAD and has nine work stations; Hoyner has five and is expected to add two more later in the year.
