• A Rhondda coal haulier was told that his maintenance system was not as adequate as it should be when he appeared to show cause before the South Wales LA in Cardiff on Monday and had his licence curtailed by one vehicle.

Mr Charles Wilson, director of Charles Wilson and Son, had an operator's licence for seven vehicles, six of which are specified at the present time and was called before the LA after the company had received one delayed and one immediate GV9.

Mr Wilson said the immediate GV9 arose from a roadside check. The driver had failed to report defects and he had been suspended. The delayed notice was in June and Mr Wilson said they had faded to find some of the faults listed by the DoE.

Curtailing the licence by one vehicle Mr R. R. Jackson, the LA, said: "You have elected to carry this rough traffic and because it is a tough job maintenance arrangements have to be vigorous enough to cater for the job. Your maintenance system is not as adequate as it should be".
