• A request by the finance and general purposes committee of Carlisle City Council to purchase an old Ribble bus garage has been turned down by the National Bus Company. The NBC says that it is preparing a scheme for office development on the site. If this fails a tenant will be looked for.
The committee noted the NBC attitude with disappointment because it had gone to considerable trouble to provide Ribble with a large new garage site on an industrial estate.
