Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ilford Ltd, the photographic manufacturing company, has started to run its own long-haul tranking vehicles instead of employing hauliers.

A complete reorganization of Ilford's two main distribution centres, at Basildon, Essex, and Mobberley in the north, has taken place and now maximum-weight artics are being used.

Forty-foot York Freightmasters hauled by 8LXB-engined ERF tractive units, carry Ilford films, photographic plates and process chemicals from Basildon on the northbound haul each night and at the same time another outfit is travelling south with photographic papers manufactured at Mobberley.

Drivers, but not tractive units, are changed midway at the Watford Gap service area on M1 so that driver subsistence costs are minimized. During the day the tractive units are used for shunting container loads for export between the Ilford factories and Felixstowe and Liverpool docks.

While this is going on loads which have been transported the previous night are transhipped into warehouses or direct onto local delivery vehicles. Loading then begins for the return run.

The Freightmasters have been equipped with Joloda tracking with an average load for each vehicle being about 56 pallets.
