Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Compression Ratio

PAA LARGER engine is now fitted to Morris 5-cwt. vans and pick-ups, the new unit being similar to that used in the latest Morris Minor and Austin A35 private cars. Other improvements to the range of 5-cwt. vehicles include a one-piece curved windscreen with narrower side pillars, a new design of steering wheel with a dished spoke layout, and a modified hand-brake lever.

The new engine is a 948-c.c. overheadvalve unit, with bore and stroke dimensions of 63 mm. and 76 mm. respecIively, representing a bore size increase of 7 mm. compared with the former 800-c.c. engine. The larger unit will also be used in the Austin 5-cwt. chassis.

Two versions of the engine are available: one, for export only, has a 7.2 to 1 compression ratio and an output of 34 b.h.p„ whilst the other version is offered for home or export and has a compression ratio of 8.3 to I with an output of 37 b.h.p. The old engine had a maximum output of 30 b.h.p. at 4,800 r.p.m.

Overall gear ratios have been raised to match the increased power available by fitting a 4.55 to 1-ratio rear axle, compared with the 5.375 to 1 unit previously employed.

A new design of remote-control gearchange linkage has been incorporated: the lever remains on the floor, but a more positive change is now claimed. There are no price increases with the new models, the van retaining a basic price of £365 10s., unpainted, plus £59 13s, 3d. purchase tax.

FOLLOWING comments at a Carlisle City Council mee.ting about proposals for new bus services to serve the council's housing estate at Morton. the chairman of the Northern Traffic Commissioners. Mr. I. A. T. Hanlon, said at Carlisle, last week, that if the council were unable to get satisfaction from Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., United Automobile Services, Ltd., and Cumberland Motor Services, Ltd., they should contact his clerk who, if necessary, would attend a public meeting,

The new estate should not have to wait while the companies were arguing. said Mr. Hanlon, and the town clerk could make representations if he could not get reasonable co-operation. The companies had a good record, but could not always agree amongst themselves.

On Ribble's behalf it was said that a representative would always be at the council's disposal.
