Many Useful Features Embodied in the Latest Guy Product.

liiirANY of our readers will recall that .1.11.at the last Commercial Vehicle Exhibition held at Olympia an outstanding feature was the number of low load-line passenger vehicles on view. In particular, they may remember the passenger vehicle of this description which was displayed by Guy Motors, Ltd., Fallings Park, Wolverhampton. It is interesting to learn that this company have delivered for service some hundreds of such vehicles, principally to the hirge municipalities in various parts of the country, as well as to important corporations overseas.

There is an impression in some quarters that the low-loading bus having only one step leading to the interior suffers from the disability of inaccessibility of vital mechanical parts. The experience of many users, however, clearly indicates that such is not the case, and Guy Motors, Ltd., are in a position to preve that the accessibility of their products is not impaired by the adoption of a dropped frame. .

After 16 months' experience with low

.a.{1-line buses in the taxvice of many users, the company, have found it unnecessary to de

c46 • viate from the original design and they have, therefore, concentrated 'on the improvement of details, both with regard to the chassis and the body.

We reproduce on this page exterior and interior views of a Guy saloon bus which has been supplied to Mr, A. F. Brookfield, Blythe Bridge, Staffs, and this incorporates in its design all the

chassis and body improvements which the company have effected. The domed top of the body now has an increased curve, and flat ventilators are fitted, as shown in our picture of the interior. . The use of a double metal-frame' windscreen certainly adds to the 'attractive appearance of the vehicle, especially as it is arranged to conform with the shape of the bonnet. It is placed at an angle with the top, sloping towards the rear.

Another feature which makes for enhanced appearance is the new radiator with a polished shell. The company now supply leather covers for the rear-wheel arches, and these are so arranged with turnbuttons that they can be readily detached.

The spare wheel is now accommodated in a convenient position in a recess on the off side Of the vehicle, where it can be protected by a leather cover if necessary. The wheel is so housed that it does not protrude unduly and, therefore, does not detract from thegeneral appearance, as is often the case when it is accommodated in a bracket extending beyond the body side.

A noteworthy improvement to, the chassis concerns the central universal joint. Hitherto, the company have made provision for oiling this joint by placing a port-hole in the floorboards of the body, but they have now arranged that the' joint can be lubricated from the side of the frame. An oil-gun nipple is fixed to the frame, and a pipc. from it is connected to the central universal joint, so that it is quite a simple matter to replenish the supply of oil at any time. Thig is a point which will be greatly appreciated.

The petrol tank can now be placed alone the side of the frame between the two sets of wheels .on the off side, in which position it can be conveniently reached.

It should be mentioned that the full range of .pas, senger chassis produced by. Guy Motors, Ltd., comprises vehiClesto seat .16, 20, 26, 30, 35, 40, 53 arid 60 people, the two last-named modela'heing rigid six-wheeled chassis intended for carrying double-decker bodies.
