At the last meeting of the Fiechley Urban District Council, a. reeommendation from the Fire :Brigade Committee that a new motor fire-engine should be purchased was referred back, on a motion from Councillor Farquharson, who advocated the use of a small motor, equipped with firstaid life-saving apparatus.

A member of the Beckenham U_D.C. has moved " That it be an instruction to the Fire Brigade Committee again to consider the recommendations made by the Fire Brigade Superintendent on the ath November, 1909, regarding the provision of a motor fire-engine and the concentration of the force at one central station."

Brockenhurst (New Forest) Waking Up.

The affairs of the Brockenhurst Brigade are steadily progressing, and the organization will shortly be placed on a firm basis. The provisional brigade has given an excellent account of itself, the utility of the appliances being fully demonstrated_ With regard to the brigade premises, arrangements have been made by the Parish Couneil for additional accommodation, should it be decided that the purchase of a fire-engine is essential. With the lesson of the total destruction of the wooden-horse factory, and the numerous forest fires, the Council should not delay.

English Tenders for Montreal were Too High.

The Board of Control of the Montreal Fire Brigade has placed its order for three motor vehicles. These are a motor hose-wagon and two motor trucks, which last are respectively intended for the haulage of a fire-engine, and for an aerial ladder truek." Chief Officer Tremblay, in an interview aith a Montreal correspondent of this journal, stated that the purpose of the employment of the motor trucks was that they should IJe used in conjunction with exist ing plant. it. was intended, he said, to remove the front wheels of ail engine or .a ladder, and to attach the motor truck, which would do the pulling. It will be remembered that a similar experiment to this was tried by Captain Wells, of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade in London, some six years ago, and it was found to be quite impracticable. The successful tenderers for this Montreal order are the Hugh Cameron Co., representing the Waterous engines, of Brantford. Their tender was for 11,500 dollars for two trucks. The Canadian Fire Engine Co. offered to supply similar machines for

11,400 dollars. The W. E. Seagrove Co. offered three motor trucks for 20,650 dollars, and Messrs. Jennings and Co. agreed to supply the three machines for 19,975 dollars. The Seagrave, Co. has received the order for the automobile hose-wagon. We are informed by our local correspondent that the English tenders were far in excess of those for American and Canadian machines.
