LATEST BENCHMARKING figures from the Association of Pallet Networks (APN) show average pallet volumes across all networks have risen 15% since January.

September saw the fourth highest pallet volumes delivered since the association began collecting data in January 2007, but volumes were still down 2% on September 2008.

APN chairman Paul Sanders says there has been a shift away from economy services, with next-day services now accounting for 60% of volumes.

The largest growth was in the quarter pallet market, with a 3.6% increase between 01 and Q3 compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, trunk trailer utilisation reached 75% in September on the backdrop of an industry 71% average, Sanders says.
