IIIere's a fellow with the weight of the world on his shoulders—well almost. John West, 56, is the current European Powerlifting Champion, and he's competing for the World Powerlifting title in Atlanta , USA. John is sponsored by Securicor Omega Express where he works as an /CV driver at the company's Hatfield distribution centre. His best ever Powerlifting achievement was during the 1992 World Senior Championships when he held 12 successive world records in one day, totalling nine lifts. Originally from the Irish Republic, but now living in Welwyn Garden City, John started out as a hammer thrower. He discovered Powerlifting in 1973 while training at his local gym. It seems he can't get enough of this keep-fit lark. As well as training four days a week he also coaches free weights and fitness induction courses at
