BUSINESS MOVES Painting Whales

• A new commercial vehicle paintshop has opened at Whale Tankers' headquarters in Solihull. The 1,860m2 shop was purpose-built at a cost of .£750,000. Facilities include air-conditioned, temperature-controlled spray booths and a five-tonne overhead crane.

Joining forces

• The freight systems division of Arbil (formerly 'Truckers Direct) has joined forces with Load Safe, a long-established manufacturer of commercial vehicle tarpaulins and canvas products. Now trading from a purposebuilt warehouse in Lye, West Midlands, the aim is to offer large stocks of tarpaulins. ratchet lashings, loadbinders, chains and lorry ropes at competitive prices. Customers who are not able to collect goods can call into the Bristol and Coventry branches, which also keep substantial stocks, or can have the products delivered to their own premises anywhere in the country either by courier or Arbil.

Portable package

• Axle weighing equipment company Axtec has introduced a battery-powered data entry keypad and printer for use with its portable axle weighpad. This will enable customers who need portable axle weighing to benefit from the full Axtec Fleet management software package previously only available with a fixed-axle weighbridge. The new system has a display which issues instructions and confirms entries. Using internal rechargeable batteries the printer and keyboard will operate continuously for eight hours from a single charge. The fleet management program stores the legal limits of vehicles in memory against a unique number.
