Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ON BEHALF of the LDoY Association, may I congratulate Mike Rutherford on his excellent report of the national finals (CM September 24).

In one particular, however, he was in error. He reported, and I quote, "having seen all the others go before him he [Graham Smart] knew what he had to do."

None of the eight class champions witnessed the performance in the tests of the others. They are strictly segregated to prevent any advantage being gained.

The whole basis of the competition, regionally and nationally, is that all competitors have an equal chance to win. That Graham Smart succeeded, at his second try, confirms that what is required is skill and knowledge, not familiarity. JOHN WELLS National Secretary LDoli
