FLEET MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE

FOR the second year running, The Commercial Motor Fleet Management Conference—held this week at the Dunblane Hotel, Perthshire—was booked to capacity by delegates from the road transport operating and manufacturing industries and the motor trade. On Wednesday, at the height of the Scottish Motor Show, over 250 executives at the Conference heard papers presented on the theme of "Operational Efficiency" by Mr. E. B. H. Elsbury, Sir Reginald Wilson and Mr. Andrew Dunn. On the pages which follow are extensive summaries of these papers, together with reports of the discussions on them and of the high-level brains trust on design and maintenance, which concluded the official proceedings. There was also lime for lively social contacts.

As recorded in more detail overleaf, the event was officially opened by Lord Muirshiel who, as Mr. John Maclay, was a Conservative Minister of Transport, and was the last Secretary of State for Scotland. The conference chairman was Mr. James Amos, former chief of the Scottish Omnibuses Group and chairman of the Highland Transport Board.

During the conference it was revealed that next year the event would revert to London to coincide with the Commercial Motor Show but, to provide even greater space than hitherto, would be held at the London Hilton Hotel—on Thursday, September 22, the day before the Show opens. Chairman of the 1966 Conference will be Lord Chesham, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport in the last Government.
