Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I N January next year Fromant and Son (Trailers) Ltd., of Felpham, Bognor, Sussex, are to launch a range of maximum-capacity semi-trailers plated to operate at the highest possible weights permitted tinder the Construction and Use Regulations.

Among the units produced will be one known as 21 semi-coil carrier. This model has been developed at the request of a customer w ho does not permanently haul coiled steel and did not want either the high cost or the unladen weight of a full coil carrier. The resulting model is both low in cost and light in weight.. It is expected that the price will not be more than £100 above a standard flat-platform trailer and that the extra weight will not be more than 10 cwt.

The standard-construction flat platform unit incorporates Rubery Owen pressed steel maul frames joined by five or six tubular cross-members, according to the length required. Outriggers are a triangulated fabrication in mild steel angle and are mounted by welding flush with the top run of the main frames.

When transverse floorboarding is fitted a longitudinal support rail is mounted on the centre of the tubular members, flush with the main members. With the side-rave members this provides five supports for the flooring. When longitudinal floors are fitted the outriggers are carried on across the centre section of the frames to support the central boards.

In the construction of the coil carrier the only difference is in the centre section above the fifth-wheel and the running' gear. There are two coil wells. brie above the fifth wheel, is a 2-ft-tong section: the other, above the running gear, a 15-ft.-Iong section.

Where the tubular cross-members interfere with the vee of the well, this will be joggled up and over the tubes. Coil hatches are constructed with transverse hoarding, so eliminating the need for extensive bracing of the undersides.

Also to be produced next year are tipping semi-trailers. Single-axle units will be plated for operation at 22 tons g.t.w. and it is hoped that it will be possible to produce tandem units for operation at 28 tons g.t.w. with body lengths ranging from 21 ft. to 26 ft. It is I expected that tipping gears used will be either of Edbro or Telehoist design and manufacture.

All vehicles produced by the company complying with the C. and U. Regulations are fitted with Clayton Dewandre triplediaphragm brake actuating cylinders, piped to operate on the standard threeline system. A Neate parking brake is fitted as standard and also the new Davies Magnet low-reduction, two-speed landing gear. All units can be fitted with either mudflaps or wings and statutory lighting and flashing indicators are standard.
