Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Record Guy Orders: A record volume of orders---worth more than Vm.—was received by Guy Motors Ltd; .during the first week of November. The major part of the order was for BignI trucks, most of them beine four-wheel tractive units for a g.t.w. of 22 or 30 tons. Most of the 22-ton units arc to be . lilted . with Cummins 1M b.h p. engines and the 30-torthers with Cummins 220 h.h.p. 'engines. The remainder of the order is for Big-J Warrior and Invincible sixand eight-wheelers, and for 26 Arab buses mentioned elsewhere. CONTENUING its policy of providing extensive servicing arrangements wherever its engines 'are operating, and in view of the rapid penetration of its products into Western European markets. Cummins Engine Co. Inc. through its associates and affiliates in that area has almost cornplaccl the establishment of such an organization at Gross-Gerau, Frankfurt, Western Germany, which will be known as Cummins Diesel Deutschland.

It will operate along the same lines as Cummins Diesel Sales and Service Ltd. of Northampton (described in The Commercial Motor, July 2).

Meanwhile, provisional plans have been announced for the manufacture of Cummins diesel engines ip a new plant in Italy.

Joint Depot: J. L. Robson and Son Ltd., heavy vehicle repair specialists, and Harold Wood and Sons Ltd., bulk liquid haulage specialists, have opened a joint depot at Haverton Hill Road, Stockton-on-Tees, to meet the needs of large industrial developments in the area.

Clayton Dewandreillailwood Merger : The boards of Clayton Dewandre Holdings Ltd. . and Hailwood Industries Ltd. have agreed on a merger of the two companies. The merger proposal is that an offer should be made on behalf of Clayton Dewandre to the Hailwood shareholders for the whole of the issued share capital of Hailwood-6,860,000 shares of is. each—on specified terms.

Improvement on A56: In order to improve traffic flow on the A56 trunk road at the point where it crosses the Bridgewater Canal, a new bridge is to be built alongside the present Longford Bridge at Stretford, Lancs. The new bridge will carry southbound traffic and the existing bridge northbound traffic. Work is expected to be started shortly and is scheduled to take about 10 months to complete. BEN Motor Ball : The Manchester, East Lanes and Cheshire branch of BEN will hold its Motor Ball at the Piccadilly Plaza Hotel, Manchester, on December 17. Dinner at 7 p.m. for 7.30. Carriages, 2 a.m. Tickets at 50s. can be obtained from BEN at 89 Oxford Street, Manchester 1.

New Hammond Premises : E. Hammond and Co. (Auto-Electric) Ltd., the Manchester auto-electrical and carburation specialist and a member of the United Battery Services Group, has moved to new premises in North Western Street, Manchester 12.

London to Brighton Run, 1966: The annual run organized in conjunction with the National Benzole Co. Ltd. will be held next year on May 1. The start will he from Clapham and more than 150 old lorries, buses, fire engines and taxis are expected to take part. A number will be appearing in this run for the first time.

M1 Extension to North : Work will start soon on the construction of a further sevenmile extension of M1 northwards from Barlborough, Derbyshire, to Morthen, in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The northern end of this contract marks the junction of MI to Leeds and M18 to the Doncaster bypass. The contract is for about E41m. and work is due to be completed in two years. Dennis Fight West Riding Fires: Four more Dennis fire engines have been ordered by the West Riding Fire Brigade.

Murtift Expansion: A new building acquired by Murfitt Bulk Transporters Ltd., manufacturers and distributors of bulk transport handling equipment, will add a further 24,000 sq. ft. to the production area at the company's headquarters at Wisbech, Cambs. A further extension is planned.

Blackpool-Preston Trunk Road: Work is to start shortly on a £298,000 scheme to improve the Blackpool-Preston trunk road (A583) at Old Lea Hall, Lea, Lancashire. Dual carriageways will be provided over a length of 780 yd. and a flyover will take the trunk road over the eastbound slip road of a proposed new road from West Strand to Old Lea Hall.

W. and E. Vehicles Ltd.: In the report on the Dairy Show (The Commercial Motor, October 29) it was said that the eutecticplate cold-storage unit shown by W. and E. Vehicles Ltd. was designed and built by Mickleover Transport Ltd. We are now told that the information given to this journal at the time was incorrect. The unit was designed and built by W. and E. Vehicles Ltd.
