Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

XPORT figures for the first nine months of the year, published on Tuesday by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, show that during that period, £259m. worth of motor vehicles, parts, accessories and equipment were sold overseas. This represents an increase of £35m. over the figure for the corresponding period in 1953.

Up to June of this year, Britain exported 65,893 commercial vehicles, the U.S.A. 90,616 and West Germany 32,642. Including cars, however, the respective figures were 254,000, 192,000 and 131,611, which show that Britain is maintaining a substantial lead over her chief competitors.

During September, the average

weekly output of commercial vehicles was 5,626 units, the highest recorded for more than three years. The total for the month was 22,506.

Of these, 10,699 were for export and 11,807 for the home market. Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types totalled 21,899, of which 11,876 were under 15-cwt. carrying capacity, 8,572 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons and 1,451 over 6 tons.

During the same period, 539 passenger vehicles were produced, 400 being single-deck and 138 double-deck motorbuses and one a trolleybus. Sixtyeight battery electrics were built.

Of the 180,603 goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types produced during the first. nine months, 97,953 were under 15 cwt. carrying capacity, 67,927 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons, and 14,723 over 6 tons. The 5,962 passenger vehicles built were comprised of 4,545 single-deck and 1,380 doubledeck motorbuses and 37 trolley buses. The total for battery-electrics was 671.

Excluding dumpers and industrial trucks, exports during September totalled 9,371 units, their value, including dumpers and industrial trucks, being £5,198,366.

For the nine months, the number of units exported was 100,334, valued at £58,281,468. To this must be added £64,736,253 for parts and accessories
