Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BY A SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT MEAT carriers -who are members of the Road Haulage Association "I are to decide the attitude to be adopted by the.R.H.A. towards the Wholesale Meat and Provisions Transport Association. The-emergency meeting of the R.H.A, meat carriers' group committee, held in London last Friday, decided to refer the matter to the areas.

Another meeting will be held by the group committee on December 10. It should then be possible to formulate a policy. Meanwhile, the W.M.P.T.A. are to be asked for fuller information on their activities.

Meetings of meat hauliers will be held in the areas to discuss -fully the desirability or otherwise of supporting the W.-M.P.T.A. in their proposal to establish a national organization. [Their activities at _present are confined to London.] The area committees will be asked to report the opinions of hauliers in time for the meeting at national level on December -10.

Many of those who attended. last Friday's meeting thought that the W.M.P.T.A. had been clumsy. in their approach to the subject of expansion and had alienated sympathy that they might otherwise have enjoyed. Even some of the London carriers who are supporters of the W.M.P.T.A. had to admit that it would have been far better if that Association had held friendly discussions with the R.H A. before

delivering what could be construed as an ultimatum.

Some.operators-believe that an Association exclusively 'for .meat carriers might be useful for those engaged on long-distance work to the large centres and might be helpful in overcoming local, temporary difficulties. Those in areas where there is little long-distance meat haulage do not, however, foresee a great future for the Wholesale Meat and Provisions Transport Association.

From opinions expressed at the meeting. it -seems unlikely that those who decide to join the W.M.P.T.A. will desert the R.H.A.

Keen controversy was caused by last week's leading article-in The Commercial .Motor on -the desirability Of preserving one national mouthpiece for hauliers.
