SPECIAL THORNYCROFT PASSENGER CHASSIS

ON May 7 "The Commercial Motor" was able to publish exclusive details of five new Thornycroft forward-control coaches supplied to the Bristol Co-operative Society, Ltd. These vehicles were equipped with the maker's 100 b.h.p. compressionignition unit, fluid coupling, and a gearbox with special pre-selective arrangements for the upper ratios.

A normal-control version of this model was used for demonstration at the Commercial Motor Show. It was fitted with a 29-seater luxury coach body by W. L. Thurgood (Coach. builders), Ltd., Ware.

Of pleasing appearance, the body was equipped with a large rear locker, heat insulation in the roof, sun visor, and other special requirements for the South American Market. The exterior was finished in orange chrome cellulose with black relieving designs.

It is now learned that the production of the chassis is discontinued. AN ALL-PURPOSE LIGHT TRACTOR

TO the farmer, small-holder or market gardener with moderate acreage, the Gunsmith three-wheeled all-purpoise light tractor should make a strong appeal. The model on show at the Public Health and Municipal Engineering Exhibition, at Olympia, is powered by a Briggs and Stratton single-cylindered four-stroke engine rated at 6 h.p., but " The Commercial Motor" understands that a J.A.P. engine, of comparable output, can be fitted if desired.

Two forward speeds and a reverse are provided by a gearbox of substantial proportions, the drive to which is by a flat belt with a jockey pulley to maintain belt tension. This pulley is connected to a pedal, the operation of which has the effect of slackening the belt and disconnecting the drive.

The steering, which is direct, is assisted by differential brakes, with pedal control. Equipped with pneumatic tyres; the tractor sells for £185, or £178 with steel straked wheels. The sole

concessionnaire for the Gunsmith is Farm Facilities, Ltd., 150, Marylebone Road, London, N.W.I.
