Sir -Cyril stated on Monday, in the course of an address to the Institute of Transport, that an investigation of certain areas would shortly be undertaken under the Transport Act's "preliminary procedure."

The Road Transport Executive announced on Tuesday that a meeting will, be held at Newcastle on December 21 "to explore the possibilities of preparing a scheme for the co-ordination of bus services in that area."

Authorities invited to attend are the county councils of North Riding, Durham, Northumberland and Cumberland, and the corporations of Newcastle-on-Tyne, Tynemouth, Gateshead,. Sunderland, West Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Carlisle and South Shields.

PARCEL CARRYING REGULAIlIZED WHEN the draft of Bradford CorVY poration's projected Parliamentary Bill was submitted to the city council, last week, it was explained that clauses providing for the carriage of parcels by the municipality's passenger transport undertaking did not signify that the passenger transport department sought to set up a new haulage business. The purpose, said Coun. W. B. Berry, chairman of the passenger transport committee, was to regularize the existing procedure.

JOINT COMMITTEE TO FIGHT WIRELESS RILL

WHEN the Wireless Telegraphy Bill. YV is raised in Committee of the House of Commons, the Standing Joint Committee of the Royal Automobile Club, Automobile Association and the Royal Scottish Automobile Club will point out that it does not necessarily follow that all the 3,500,000 private and commercial vehicles in this country do. in fact, interfere with television and short-wave reception. The Joint Committee will press for some restriction on the extent to which vehicleowners are required to defray the cost of fittings essential for the suppression of interference.

Action to ensure that suppressors are retailed at the lowest possible cost will be advocated.

Before vehicle-owners are called upon to bear any special expenditure, says the Joint Committee, technical evidence should be available to establish conclusively that interference cannot satisfactorily be eliminated at the receiving end.

A memorial service for Lord Ashfield will be held at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London, at noon, on November 26.
