Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

This industry is made weak by its own lack of

unity. Austin Caulfield ass:

when will we stand together?

It seems a great shame that just 20 or 30 farmers and tractors turned up at Stanlow refinery to protest about fuel costs.Wh at's wrong with the haulage industry?

What does it take to stir up enough fire to make you stand up and shout your corner? Diesel is now at £4 a gallon. Will it have to reach £5 or £6 a gallon before you make a stand? Lets face it — the haulage industry is the most powerful business in Britain, and also the weakest.

We all know why: there is not the tiniest bit of cohesion. The Road Haulage and Freight Transport Associations are toothless tigers so at the end of the day we are all on our own. Now don't know what the answer is but somehow to survive the future there has to be some sort of closing of the ranks How about this for a comment? One of our drivers was advised last week of a possible six-hour delay at a large supermarket RDCThe advice he was given was to keep the tacho switched to 'Period of Availability' mode because that would keep him legal in terms of the WTD. Of course, there are some people who might suggest that not having a six-hour delay in the first place might be a better way to combat the Directive, but clearly they're not employed by the major supermarkets.

The bosses of these companies should be brought to book but will they be? Not on your life.

As Alan Sugar comments: "Whoever said business was fair?"

Farewell, so long...

Finally, all that's left from me is to say goodbye. After over 40 years in industry I've decided to hang up my boots and tour the world before the job kills me. •
