• Oldham haulier Brett Hampson has been warned about taking vehicles to their annual test in less than perfect condition by North Western Licensing Authority Martin Albu at a Manchester disciplinary inquiry.
Hampson, who trades as B & J Haulage, holds a national licence authorising the operation of 10 vehicles.
DOT vehicle examiner Graham Brock said he had examined two vehicles and one trailer at the Bredbury test centre in February following the issuing of an immediate prohibition at a roadside check. An immediate prohibition was issued to one vehicle for a brake defect.
An immediate prohibition was issued in June 1993, and when the vehicle concerned was presented for clearance the prohibition was varied because of a further dangerous defect.
Hampson said that the air leak at the test station had been repaired by replacing the diaphragm.
Taking no action other than to issue a warning, Albu said that when vehicles were taken to the test station they should be "in perfect nick". The licence expired in March 1995, so Hampson had 11 months to demonstrate he had his maintenance under control.
