Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Pirelli has launched steer and drive-axle tyres for trucks and touring coaches.

The FH55 steer-axle tyre and the TH65 drive-axle tyre are both designed for long-distance use. They are the result of three years' research and more than 400 million kilometres of trials and are designed to be re-treaded once or possibly twice.

The FH55 has four longitudinal grooves with a deep step in the centre of the tread pattern to reduce stone trapping. The heavy siping (pattern of cuts) is designed to promote even wear and improved steering response. The TH65 also has deep longitudinal grooves with a wide tread and block pattern designed for long life, high traction and low noise levels.

New materials are used to reduce heat generation. The bead has a honeycomb section to produce a curve angle similar a tyre which has already covered a great distance.

Pirelli claims a 20% improvement in mileage, 5% better handling, a 10% boost in wet and dry grip and 10% improvement in wet braking over previous designs. Sizes are 315/80R 22.5 and 295/80R 22.5.

Continental has launched a steer-axle tyre, the HS45, with a deep longitudinal groove pattern. The tread block angles and planes maximise water clearance as the tyre wears. It is available as an 11R and I2R 22.5 in 60/70 and 80 aspect ratios.
