Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• TNT celebrated 10 years' operations in the UK last week by securing a major new contract with the giant Unilever group to distribute its industrial hygiene products, TNT Contract Services has signed a five-year deal with Lever Industrial to distribute its products from Port Sunlight and Runcorn in the North West to nominated distributors, cash and carry outlets, factories and hospitals using a liveried fleet of 12 artics and six rigids.

This is the first time that TNT has won business from the Lever group.

The TNT Newsfast newspaper distribution arm has also won a major deal, with magazine publishing house Haymarket, to deliver 19 of the company's titles including magazines such as Autocar, Autosport, Camera Weekly, Campaign and What Car.

TNT Newsfast vehicles will collect from Haymarket print centres across the country including Gillingham, Plymouth, Caerphilly, Bletchley, Sheffield, Bradford and Basildon for delivery to 325 wholesalers.

TNT is also marking its anniversary by forming a bulk liquids division to develop new markets, and TNT Express (UK) which has recently invested 212 million in computerisation, is to spend a further 22 million on its data processing facility in Birmingham.

TNT managing director Alan Jones says that the extra investment is necessary for the company's computer facility to keep pace with the organisation's expansion programme across its many UK operating division. "We are planning a range of new services and this will require additional computer capacity, he says. "Our continued growth in the contact distribution field also places further demands on our advanced computer systems."

TNT's XL60 mainframe is currently being upgraded to an XL80, which giving up to 90% extra capacity.

TNT is also investing in plant and equipment such as new vehicle washers in many of its depots, including Llantrisant, Cannock, Bristol and Maidstone. Next month it officially opens a new depot at Southampton, which has cost nearly £2 million.

According to Jones, TNT's future is bright: "We have grown to a turnover of nearly £6 million per week from a turnover of £6 million per year in 10 years — From 500 employees to 7,300. By 1990 that figure is expected to exceed 10,000 TNT employees in Britain," he says.
