• As expected, the Road Haulage Association's national chairman for the next two years is Roy Bowles JP, of Roy Bowles Transport. Bob Heaton and Barry Henripsall were elected vice-chairmen after last week's RHA annual general meeting.

The newly constituted national council also elected five other members to serve on the executive board: Ron Irons, Pat Lee, Tom Llewellyn, Peter May, Bob McKinnon and Glynn Samuel.

Bowles is 58 and has been a member of the RHA for almost 30 years. He is a long-serving member of the national council and has been vice-chairman of the association for four years Heaton should be able to smooth relations between the RHA and the National Farmers' Union, having started a career in farming before joining his father's haulage firm in 1960.
