Gentlemen of the road

ith their shields held aloft are the three winners of the William Blyth Driver of the Year for 1997 award. In third place Paul Hillam stands next to Transport Manager Andy Ashworth; next to him is overall winner David Wade; and in second place is Keiron Farnworth. David is the recipient of this prestigious award for the second time, previously claiming the title in 1991.

As well as al:50 cheque he also received a jacket from ERE This year the scheme was run in conjunction with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. It is marked by eight assessors who can award up to 100 points over a 12-month period.

The points are awarded for vehicle maintenance records, tachograph and hours, road safety, mechanical sympathy, driver's attendance and customers' service record. David is a worthy winner.
