owner-driver who admitted he had vehicle untaxed and untested has had his licence suspended with immediate effect by West Midland Traffic Commissioner John Mervyn Pugh. Raymond Parker, of Hollyfaste Road, Sheldon, appeared before Mervyn Pugh at a Birmingham disciplinary inquiry.

The IC said Parker was before him because he had picked up a prohibition notice that had been endorsed as showing a signifi cant maintenance failure. In other words, Parker's maintenance contractor had let him down.

Parker said he had not put the vehicle through a fresh annual test, as suggested in the calling-in letter, as he had been unable to get it in until the following week.

The vehicle was not currently taxed as he was in the process of leasing another vehicle. He agreed he was currently using his existing vehicle and the tax had run out at the beginning of February He said he was going to put that right immediately.

Mervyn Pugh said he had no alternative but to suspend Parker's licence until the vehicle had been properly taxed and had been through the annual test.

After the TC had pointed out that it would be quite wrong if Parker continued to use the vehicle, Parker gave an assurance that he would not do so.
