Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A flameproof version of the well-proven Dixi Mk 4 batteryoperated fork-lift truck has been added to the range of flameproof models available from L. Lipton Ltd.

Known as the Dixi Mk 4 (Ex), the truck is powered by an explosion-proof battery and has all switches and fuses located in a pressure-resistant sealed housing. This housing can be opened only when the whole electrical system has been switched off at the master switch.

Traction is provided by a pressure-resistant sealed dc motor. In the event of the motor heating up excessively through overloading, it switches off automatically on reaching the maximum permissible temperature, and comes on again when cooled down.

The forks and, if required, the bottom and sides of the truck, are brass-clad to protect against friction spark formation, while electrically conductive solid rubber-tyred wheels are fitted to prevent static build-up.

Compact and having excellent manoeuvrability, the Dixi Mk 4 (Ex) is offered with capacities of 22001b or 2750Ib at 20in. lock centres. Overall dimensions are from only 311in. wide x 41in. long, including fork heel, while the lowered height of the smaller model permits travel through a 6ft high doorway. The truck is steered by means of a tiller, which can be swivelled 90 deg to left or right to give an overall lock of 180 deg. Turning radius is 581in. A wide tyretrack ensures excellent stability even at maximum-lift heights, which vary from 78in. to 137in., dependent on model. Electrohydraulic lifting gear gives full control over the speed of lift and descent, while the whole hydraulic system is fully protected against overload by means of pressure relief valves.

The Dixi Mk 4 (Ex) has variable forward and reverse speeds with a maximum approaching 3+ mph. The fitting of a spring-loaded drive wheel ensures firm ground contact and maximum traction even when operating on bumpy or uneven surfaces, A special safety feature is the provision of a contact switch on the tiller. This reverses traction automatically at a touch, and prevents any possibility of injury to the operator through being trapped between the truck and an obstruction.
