• Oxfordshire county council recently approved a recommendation from the general purposes committee that a transport officer be appointed and also that a list of bus services, which may be curtailed or withdrawn, be circulated to all district • councils.
Only eight of the 13 district councils in Oxfordshire have so far informed the county council of their view on subsidizing bus services.
When the details of services to be curtailed or withdrawn are sent to the district councils, they will be asked whether they would be prepared, in principle, to pay subsidies and which services they would like to see preserved.
The committee also recommended that a meeting should be held between private operators and officers of the council to discuss what part private operators could
play in the replacement of National Bus Company services.
Members were anxious that it should be made clear that, if the county did subsidize, bus services, it would do so for one year without committing itself for a further period.
