• One of the oldest independent bus and coach services in the country, operated by C. J. Smith and Sons Ltd, Station Road, March, Cambs, has been sold to a Peterborough firm, but the fleet name Blue Bell and the light and dark blue livery will be retained.

Mr C. J. Smith, father of 60-year-old governing director Mr Leslie Smith, founded the company in 1919 as a motor engineering business, adding a bus service in 1924. The Blue Bell title was brought into use in the early days when a second-hand bus bearing that name was acquired. The present fleet consists of two doubleand one single-deck buses and eight coaches.

New owner is T. Canham and Sons (Services) Ltd, Whittlesey, and the Blue Bell stage, express, excursions and tours licences are being taken over with effect from April 4.
