Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The oldest independent psv undertaking in Cumberland—that of Ernie Hartness of Penrith—has been sold by the trustees of the former proprietor, Mr Ernest Hartness, who died last month, aged 77. Barnett and Graham, of Catterlen, Penrith, local and long-distance hauliers, have purchased the business and have announced that they will continue to operate the services.

Ernie Hartness operated rural bus services between Penrith and Carlisle, together with a service to Burn Banks, close to Hawes Water. He had applied to Cumberland county council for grant aid for these services.

Mr J. Barnett and Mr A. D. Hewetson, founders of the haulage firm, stated that they would continue to operate the bus services for a month, unchanged, after which they would make a further statement. Both were former drivers with the Hartness bus business, which was established in 1917.

The operation of Ernie Hartness psv undertaking was described and illustrated in CM April 2 1965.
