Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An Edinburgh landlady has petitioned the council for better parking facilities for lorry drivers on overnight stops in the city.

Mrs C. Neilson, who provides accommodation for transport drivers at 15 Gayfield Square, has complained to the council that drivers can only leave their lorries overnight at a park in Morrison Street for which there is a charge of 50p.

In a written complaint to the council, backed up with a petition bearing some 50 signatures of drivers who use her accommodation, Mrs Nielson claims: "The one and only park at Morrison Street is at the other end of town, and it means that a stranger in the city can get lost looking for accommodation."

Mrs Neilson points out that until January 24 there was a park at Nottingham Place, Greenside, but recently notices had been posted barring commercial vehices: she adds "Drivers who come here are now saying they will be pass Edinburgh.

"I would like to know why Greenside cannot become available again, and would suggest that alternative parking could be made possible at London Street, where there is a piece of waste ground. Surely Edinburgh can find a way to help the drivers—not hound them."

Cllr James Cook has organized a meeting for proprietors of transport and guest house accommodation.

The just-published RHA Night Parking Facilities booklet has only one entry for Edinburgh--the unattended Morrison Street site, said to have "local accommodation".
