By our Industrial Correspondent rrHE Committee of Inquiry set up by

the Minister of Labour, Mr. Ray Gunter, under the chairmanship of Sir Roy WiLson, QC, president of the Industrial Court, to inquire into the dispute between the two sides of the National Council for the Omnibus Industry, is to hold its first meeting on Monday, April 5.

One of the committee's first tasks will be to decide whether to hold its hearings in public or in private. Although some tribunals—like the Devlin Committee which is currently inqu:ring into labour problems in the docks—have preferred to sit in private, it is expected that the bus hearings will be in public.

The unions have already indicated that they will ask the committee to deal with the pay question first and issue an interim report on this issue. This, they contend, would get the most pressing point out of the way quickly and allow the inquiry to go into the other questions at their leisure. These. are claims for a sick-pay scheme, a reduction of the working week to 40 hours without loss of pay, an extra £2 holiday pay for skilled maintenance men ind an incentive bonus scheme based on 7dceipts andfor carrying capacity of the vehicles.

On pay the unions will demand at least 15s. a week for drivers and conductors, xhich is in line with the settlement reached by the municipal men.
