MR. K. G. THORNE, chief engineer of S. Smith and Sons (Radiomobile), Ltd., has left the company to take up an appointment with the Canadian Government. He has been succeeded by MR. W. A. CROSSLAND, formerly the service manager. This post is now filled by MR H. M. MELLOR, who has travelled extensively in Europe and North. America developing Radiomobile service facilities.

MR. WALTER LUFF, the retiring general manager of Blackpool Transport Department, will be succeeded by one of the following who have been short-listed for the vacancy to be created when he leaves in June: MR. J. S. SWALLOW, Blackpool cost accountant; MR. J. C. FRANKLIN, general manager at Rochdale; MR. C. J. OAKHAM, chief engineer at Manchester; MR. E. G. A. SINGLETON, general manager at Burton-on-Trent; MR. J. C. WAKE, general manager at St. Helens; and MR. W. C. WILSON, general manager at Stockton-on-Tees.

MR. H. SELLARS has been re-elected chairman of the Sheffield Area of the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association, and MR. J. 0. ANDREW vicechairman.

MR. B. C. FLOYD has been appointed chairman of the Metropolitan and South Eastern Area of the Road Haulage Association, and MR. C. HARDS and Ma I. T. TURNER vice-chairmen.

DR. HANS CHRISTOPH SEEROHM, the German Federal Minister of Transport, is visiting Britain for discussions on transport. He was expected to meet the Minister of Transport, MR. A. T. LENNOX-BOYD, yesterday.

MR. A. R. HALL has been appointed a representative of the automotive division of E. R. Howard, Ltd., to cover South Wales and the West Country, and MR. K. ALLERTON-SMITH certain counties in the North and Midlands.

LORD BA1LLIEU, chairman of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., has returned to this country after a business tour of Australia, New Zealand, Ceylon and Malaya. MR. G. P. SLATER, chief accountant of the company, has been appointed a local director at Fort Dunlop in succession to Ma. G. W. TELFORD, who has retired.

MR. J. G. T. ANDERSON has been appointed secretary of the Ulster Transport Authority in succession to MR T. B. AND1S0N, who is to retire. Mr. Anderson was appointed assistant secretary and registrar of the Northern Ireland Road Transport Board in 1935, and in 1948 became deputy secretary and registrar of the U.T. A.

RECEIPTS, tonnage and 'mileage of British Road Services are no longer being published separately in Transport Statistics, the British Transport Commission's monthly publication. Revenue is now being included with receipts from ships and inland waterways. Transport Statistics has been substantially reduced in size.

TO FRANCE—BY SCHOOL BUS QCHOOL buses will take pupils of the Borough-Beaufoy County Secondary School, Lambeth, to France this summer. Permission has been given for the buses to be used for this purpose because it is regarded as " a worthwhile experiment.''

A MEMORANDUM on the Thesiger I 3. Committee's recommendations on contract-carriage operation is soon to be circulated to "the interests concerned" by the Minister of Transport, according to a reply given by the Minister in the House of Commons last week.
