THE NUMBER of lorries tes at Department of Transp heavy goods vehicle testing 1 tions fell by six per cent 0.725m in 1981/82.
The previous year's total v 0.771m lorries, including 0.21 trailers.
The number of vehicles t passed their tests fell fri 0.625m for 1980/81 to 0.588m 1981/82. Yet, despite this, failure rate decreased fn 0.146m lorries for 1980/81 0.136m. This is the lowest it I been since 1976.
The test failure rate was 1 per cent in 1981/82, but t conceals a higher one of 20.7 I cent for lorries, and 14 per ci for trailers.
The percentage of two-a small vehicles presented for 1 DTp test was 65.7. This figi has been decreasing slom since 1976, when the two-a; sector represented 67.9 per c( of the total intake.
Three-axle vehicles remain almost constant at 4.1 per ce while the four-axle sector E joyed a marginal ii?crease of ( per cent to 2.3.
One-axle trailers droppi from 5.9 per cent in 1980/81 5.4 per cent.
