ATLAS EXPRESS Group has made ROBERT HUNTER deputy chairman, with responsibility for Atlas Express, Atlasair, and Eurofreight. CYRIL BRIDGEN becomes a member of the group board, and his duties as group secretary have been taken over by SANDY FYFE, DEREK MUNT has been promoted to director and general manager of Ferrymasters. He will be responsible for the Ferrymasters Group's overall UK activities and will be based at the Altrincham headquarters.

The Coach and Independent Bus Sector of the Bus and Coach Council has elected NORMAN DODDS as national chairman. He succeeds STUART APPLEBY, and is the first Scot to hold this position. Mr Dodds is chairman of Dodds Coaches, of Troon.

BOB SHERRINGTON has become general branch manager of the Roadline UK Croydon hub distribution centre at Purley Way. He was previously manager of the Plymouth branch. MARTYN BICKERTON takes over as operations manager for the Leicester hub group, and replaces JOHN SIMPSON, who is now general manager at Newcastle. The Leicester branch has also made another two changes to its team: CHARLES SWEENEY takes over as night operations manager. He comes from WHS Distributors of Leicester. JOHN PHILIPSON has moved from Exter to become unclaimed goods manager.

National Freight Company (International) managing director TED WALL has left Britain to take up the resident chairmanship of Downard-Pickfords Pty in Australia, for a period of up to two years. He will continue in his main role with NFC (International). Downard-Pickfords Pty operates domestic, inter-state and international removals and a freight distribution business covering many Australian towns and cities.

Midlands-based Carpet Express, has strengthened its sales and marketing team. MICHAEL POWELL is now European marketing manager, STEVE HILL becomes senior distribution cons u It a nt, IRENE BRYDON is marketing assistant and GRANT KENWORTHY is operations manager at the Middleton depot.

EDWARD BLANCH, formerly president of Ford of Europe, is to become chairman, and JAMES CAPOLONGO will succeed him as president. The appointments follow the departure of the present chairman, ROBERT LUTZ, who has been promoted to executive vice-president of Ford International Automotive Operations in Detroit, USA. Mr Blanch joined Ford in the USA in 1952. He became Ford of Europe's president in 1979.

Scania UK has made TIM WERNLY chairman in place of SIR ARCHIBALD ROSS who has retired. FRANK ANDREW, joins the board, as do CARL-AXEL CARLSON and GEORGE KARNSUND.

CLIVE DEN LEY has been elected chairman of the council of the Institute of the Motor Industry, the third time he has held this office. He was first chairman in 1976, and re-elected for a three-year term in 1978.

MICHAEL DEVEREAU has taken over as head of information of the Department of Transport. He was previously with the Department of the Environment as head of branch in 1978, GEORGE NELSON has been promoted to secretary to the Management Committee of the Bus Employees Superannuation Trust, the pension fund for hourly and weekly paid employees of NBC subsidiary companies. Mr Nelson is a member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants and succeeds VIVIENNE HAYWAFID. Prior to joining NBC, he was assistant company secretary to the National Building Agency.

ZF Gears (Great Britain) has appointed RICHARD HANDS managing director. He takes up this new position on July 30 following the resignation of Mr T. REAST. Mr Reast has been managing director of ZF Gears (GB) since the company's inception in 1973. Mr Hands was previously managing director of the Associated Engineering subsidiary, Edmunds Walker.

NICK EDWARDS has joined the sales staff of Williams Motor Co (Manchester). Mr Edwards was originally trained by the company, but left in 1975. He joined the Moseley Group at Loughborough and has spent most of his time with that Group.
