Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A reader in the West Country states he will shortly be taking up employment as a sales representative to his father. His transport will consist of a 5 cwt. van which has been chosen because quantities of stock will be carried so that spot deliveries can be made to customers wherever possible.

He asks what type of licence is necessary and to whom application should be made. He also asks for comment on the insurance position, bearing in mind that the goods carried would be his father's property.

It is noted that the goods to be conveyed will be the property, of this reader's father and additionally that he would also be his employer. Accordingly, in order to carry such goods for delivery to customers, it would be necessary for the van to operate under C licence in the name of his father, or father's company. If this was also based in the West Country the appropriate Licensing Authority to whom application should be made will be for the Western area, the address being : The Gaunts' House, Denmark Street, Bristol, 1.

Commercial vehicle insurance would be necessary and this again would presumably be taken out in the name of the company, although the position and terms, including cover for goods in transit would be dependent on individual negotiation.
