Cab Routes.

Sir John Dickinson, on the 10th inst., at Bow Street, ruled that it was for the fare, and not the cabman, to choose the route, whether the hire cost more or less. The trouble is that so many fares do not know the way, or ignore other circumstances. The honest taxicabby is often blamed when he does not deserve it.

Cleansing Congress.

The Institute of Cleansing Superintendents has completed its annual congress, this year at Aberdeen. Mr. T. H. Turner, the Cleansing Superintendent of the Bury Town Council, read a paper on " Motor Vehicles for Municipal Purposes." There was no branch of municipal work, he said, for which these vehicles could not be utilized—for conveying household refuse, street watering, clinker haulage, conveyance of materials and stores, eta He had no hesitation in saying that they were far in advance of the present horsedrawn types of vehicle. He thought the charge for petrol was exorbitant, and he believed that the electrically-propelled vehicle would supersede it for all work necessitating frequent stoppages.
