THE FACT that land adjacent to the premises of Bradford operator Dennis Moorhouse was scheduled for residential development was not something that could be taken into account when considering the suitability of his operating centre.

So said Yorkshire Deputy Licensing Authority N. F. Moody, when he granted Mr Moorhouse's application for a new licence despite an objection from the West Yorkshire County Council.

Mr Moorhouse, who was seeking a licence for one vehicle in possession with one to be acquired based at Lower Park House Farm, Low Moor, said he was taking over a business previously run by his father.

A vehicle had been operated from the premises for 12 years without difficulty and there was plenty of access space and no access problems.

Evidence was given by a vehicle examiner that Mr Moorhouse undertook his own maintenance and that the facilities and arrangements were satisfactory. Apart from three minor defects which were rectified on the spot, the vehicle had been in good condition.

For the County Council, Ian Gallagher said the objection was on the grounds that the premises were inadequate in terms of space and access, for the licence as applied for.

The open area of land 'adjoining the premises was scheduled for housing development, and the Council was conerned that there should be an operating centre in the vicinity.

Granting the application in respect of one vehicle, after Mr Moorhouse had indicated that that was all he required. Mr Moody said the fact that the operating centre has been in use for 12 years showed that it was suitable for the purpose.
