Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Just published. Steering, Suspension and Tyres comprises eight chapters by leading authorities on automotive practice and is essentially a treatise on vehicle behaviour and handling. Published by Iliffe Books Ltd., Dorset House, Stamford Street, London, SE1, the book is edited by Dr. J. G. Giles, a consulting engineer and a former director of the Motor Industry Research Association. It is the first volume of a series devoted solely to automobile technology and caters for non-specialists with a basic engineering knowledge. The 164 pages include 85 diagrams and 12 pages of plates, while the cost of the book is £2 2s.

The authors are P. D. Patterson, of Dunlop ("Wheels and tyres" and "The pneumatic tyre' ) ; R. K. Hodkin of the Humber company ("Automobile suspension springing" and "Vehicle handling"); A. E. Moulton (" Rubber suspension systems"); A. J. Hirst of Metalastik ("Rubber and air suspension"); D. Hartley, Coventry Technical College ("Air suspension"); K. J. Bunker of Alford and Alder ("Theoretical and practical approaches to motor vehicle steering mechanisms").

The authors deal concisely with the basic theory of their subjects and review past and current practice in such a way that the typical reader should derive a realistic appreciation of design parameters that affect handling and ride characteristics of both light and heavy vehicles. Although the book is far from being comprehensive with regard to the types of systems and components covered by the titles it is a comprehensive survey of closely interrelated functions.
