William J. Hayward, 1421 project development group manager of Perkins Engines Group, has been appointed director-engineering of the group's North American Operations Unit. Located in Detroit. he will be responsible for engineering control in both Perkins Engines Inc. in the USA and Perkins Engines Canada Ltd.
J.D. McGregor, managing director of Highway Trailers (Great Britain) Ltd. flew to Kenya on Tuesday for discussions with Burns and Blane, Ltd., Nairobi on the assembly of a range of semi-trailers specially designed for use in East Africa. He was accompanied by Gordon S. Driver, group export sales director of the Owen Organisation.
S.J.B. Skyrme has been appointed a director of East Kent Road Car Co. Ltd. and has been elected chairman of the company in succession to J.H. Richardson, who has resigned from the board.
B.W. Lennard has been appointed BRS Parcels Ltd. branch manager. Droitwich, andJ.T. Lawrence branch manager, Coventry. Mr. Lennard was Conventry branch manager and Mr. Lawrence was traffic assistant at the Midland area Office, Leicester.
B, Turner has been appointed by Drum Engineering Co. Ltd. to take overall responsibility as sales manager at Bradford; R. Fear takes over the London office, assisted by R. Heslop as sales and service engineer. J. Kirby, chief hydraulics engineer, becomes sales and service engineer for the North of England from October 1. Mr. Kirby will operate from Bradford in conjunction with B. Ineson.
A. Lamm, 60, has been appointed a director of Skefco Ball Bearing Co. Ltd. to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of V.F.W. CavendishBentinck, Mr. Lamm has been Skefco's chief executive, design and development since 1962.
Donald C. Rose, has been appointed a joint managing director of the Rose Line Ltd„ Sunderland. The parent company of Wearside Carrier Service 'Ltd., haulage contractor, and Station Garage, main Ford dealer in the Washington (Durham) area.
Edward Cowie has been promoted Britax (London) Ltd. area sales manager for Scotland, Northern Ireland and part of the north of England. Ronald B. Tagger has been appointed sales manager of Kysor Industrial (Great Britain/ Ltd.
A.D.V. Crook has been appointed marketing manager of Small and Parkes Ltd, manufacturer of Don friction materials, and a member of the Cape Asbestos Group. Mr. Crook was previously with the Crown Cork Company.
V.G. Sherren has succeeded the Earl of Drogheda as chairman of Industrial and Trade Fairs Holdings Ltd. and of three of its subsidiary companies. Industrial and Trade Fairs Ltd.. Industrial Trade Fairs International Ltd.. and F. W. Bridges and Sons Ltd. Lord Drogheda remains on the board of Industrial and Trade Fairs Holdings as deputy chairman and also remains on the board of the subsidiary companies. Mr. Sherren is a director of International Publishing Corporation Ltd. and chairman of lliffe-NTP International Ltd. Sir Gordon Newton editor of the Financial Times and a director of Financial Times Ltd., has joined the boards of Industrial Trade Fairs Holdings and of its subsidiary companies.
D.H. Pillinger, 43 has been appointed to the board of Mintex Ltd.. Cleckheaton, Yorks, a member of the BBA Group of Companies. Mr. Pillinger has been general sales manager since January.
R. F. Richard has been promoted to vice-president of operations for the Domestic division of Cummins Engine Co. Ltd. based in Indiana, USA. Mr. Richard has been in the UK since 1966, initially as director, international manufacturing, and latterly as vice-president and managing director of Cummins Engine Co. Ltd., the UK subsidiary.
A. C. Robson, chairman and managing director of Graham and Roberts Ltd., following the acquisition of that company, has now been appointed to the board of the Appleyard Group of Companies.
,OBITUARY
We record with regret the death of Harold Samuel Benjamin Beale. and Kenneth K. Haynes.
Mr. Beale, 54, who was killed in a flying accident, was service director of H. A. Saunders Ltd. He joined the company in 1946 at the High Wycombe branch, becoming branch manager in 1962 and being appointed to the board in 1965.
Mr. Haynes, 63. who died suddenly on Saturday. had been managing director of Kenning Car Mart Ltd. since 1965. He rejoined the company after the war as an executive in the commercial vehicle department.
