Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BECAUSE some customers, includine the Co-operative Wholesale Society, insisted on eight-wheeled vehicles being used, G. Read (Transport), Ltd., Cuckoo Patch, Mitcheldean, Glos, last week asked Mr. S. W. Nelson, Western Licensing Authority, to vary their A licence. The company sought to substitute a number of six-wheelers totalling 54 tons unladen by. eight-wheelers aggregating 60 tons.

Mr. T. D, Corpe, for the applicants, said that a large amount of tinplate was carried for the C.W.S., and if the application were granted it would reduce hiring by Read's.

After Mr. Corpe had stated that the applicants did not wish to interfere with customers of British Railways, Mr. Timmon, representing the B.T.C. as objectors, withdrew. The application was granted.

IMPROVEMENTS TO TRUNK ROAD BEGIN SOON

IMPROVEMENTS costing £216,000 I are to begin shortly on a two-mile stretch of the A48 trunk road connecting London and Fishguard. The Ministry of Transport plans to construct twin 24-ft. carriageways from the junction with the A4106 road to Porthcawl, over a section of road which at present is narrow and gives restricted visibility to drivers.

About 6,000 vehicles use the road every day, 30 per cent. of them heavy lorries, buses and coaches.
