Q0 that they could leave one semi trailer to be loaded at a lime works while another one was delivering. Robinson Transport (Carlisle), Ltd.. last week asked the Northern Licensing Authority for permission to replace a platform vehicle on their B licence by an articulated lorry.

Mr. T. R. Robinson, managing director, explained that alternative semitrailers were needed, because his company carried " selected " lime, and sometimes it took a whole day to select one load of special lime at the kilns. It was also often necessary to leave a vehicle loaded with lime at a farm if she weather was unsuitable for spreading.

The application was granted, but another one, seeking B-licence variations to permit the carriage of agricultural requisites within 100 miles of Bank Hall and goods for Scottish Agricultural Industries, Ltd., from Glasgow and Ayr, was adjourned.

Opposing this change, Mr. F. J. McHugh,' for British Railways and British Road Services, said baekloading from Scotland would release one of the applicant's A-licence vehicles for other work.

Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon granted the adjournment so that the objectors could call witnesses from Scotland.
