the victim of truck crime. It may not get your truck or components back, but it should make life harder for the thieves attempting to use or sell your property.

Truck crime is a major problem for commercial vehicle operators nationwide. While it's difficult to get an accurate figure in terms of overall financial losses, according to recently published material From the Home Office it could be costing

the industry as much as 21 billion a year. Home Office figures also estimate the number of crimes against commercial vehicles during 1993 was approximately 40,000. Last year is unlikely to show any improvement.

However, there's no excuse for staying ignorant. The Freight Transport Association has produced a 100-page Theft Prevention Guide which is issued free to all FrA members-nonmembers can buy a copy for 215. (Additional copies to members cost C10).

The guide includes details of the FTA's own survey on truck crime, and sections on: employee, depot and transit security; advice to drivers; security equipment; secure lorry parks; handling insurance; and how to report theft Copies can be obtained from the FTA Sales Office at Hermes House, St John's Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN4 9UZ;
