EXCLUSIVE by Brian Weatherley and John Kendall • MAN will crown its F2000 range at the Paris Show this autumn with the launch of the most powerful road-going truck in Europe. Suggestions from Munich are that the output from MAN's 18.3-litre vee-10 engine could be as much as 600hp, with models badged 18.603, 22.603 and 26.603 in line with other F2000 models.

The vee-10 was last seen in the F90 developing 493hp (368kW) with 1,7341bft (2,350Nm) of torque. The torque rating of the 600hp version is not yet known but gearbox suppliers ZF and Eaton are believed to be working on transmissions that will handle up to 3,000Nm.

It is not clear if MAN will introduce lesser powered variants of the vee10 to fill the gap between the 12.8-litre 453hp models and the vee-10s. Specification is probably not yet finalised but 600hp would generate interest among heavy hauliers, there will probably be 6x4 versions as well as 6x2s and 4x2s aimed at Trans-European haulage. MAN may choose to make the Roadhaus high-roof cab standard on its flagship model.
